King Makers

Welcome to Twifoman

The Twifo people, an Akan clan in Ghana, are known for their early rise to prominence as a strong forest kingdom engaged in the slave and gold trades. Before finally disintegrating under British colonial control, they negotiated intricate alliances and wars with more powerful entities like Denkyira, the Asante Empire, and European traders over several centuries. The suffix “fo,” which means “people,” and the Akan dialect “Twi,” which they regard as the best, are the sources of the name “Twifo.
